Reviews in Indie Films

International Film
The first movie that I watch is an Indian film at first I thought it was just an ordinary film where there is a love story and has a typical end but in this film I’ve realized that love may change the people from its past and the past of the people may change love that it has in the future. That love can change whatever you try not to but you can’t fool yourself or anybody because you want to be happy for the one you love and to yourself. Love in this film defines for me as love can’t conquer all, that love can’t always have a happy endings sometimes it should have a tragic ending in order for us people to be awaken from all our daydreams in life and face the fact that life is not a fairytale.

International Film
The second movie that I watched is Mother a Thailander Film, honestly I didn’t get the point of the movie but based on what I saw it has a mother with I think she has a disease that make her realized she is dependent on her children and act like a infant who always cry because her children always reprimanded her for being nuisance and I think there is also another mother that also has an illness about her behaviour where she always go to the supermarket and take things without paying where sometimes the owner didn’t caught her and bring the things in their house and act as if she bought it with her own money until such time the owner notice her and bring her to the jail and her son went also to the jail and let the police see the medical records of her mother but they still put the mother in the jail while her son is waiting in her behind the bars.

Ang Superhero ng Saranggani
“Ang Superhero ng Saranggani” it is one of the film that our classmate made and I’m proud of him because who knows that my classmate can also be a director by their own movie. In this film Cong. Manny Pacquiao is the superhero of this film referring to. I’ve realized that Cong. Pacquiao is not just a hero because of his boxing career that make our country known for its “lakas ng kamao” but also to his people for sharing his resources and helping the people especially the children with dreams pursuing their dreams through the aid of education, in this film it is clearly stated that education is the way towards success and Cong. Pacquiao is a real hero not just to our country but also to his people in Saranggani.

Dyaryo
Another short story titled as “Dyaryo” directed by my friend Bhai it is a story of a policeman who die because he save a child, and the story goes with a woman who is also the wife of the policeman, she is trying to find the child in the newspaper who save by her husband and when she find the child, she adopt it and promise the aunt of the child that he will send him to the school to have a good future. In this film, I’ve realized that helping people or serving people as a public servant is more important than their life where they are ready to die for their duties and dedication, being a public servant is not an easy task, to serve its people in order for the other person appreciate you as a real public servant with dedication, respect and dignity.

Grandmother
The story of a painter who has a real passion in painting where his wife is not happy of what he is doing because in painting, she believed that this work would never alleviate their economical status as an individual but the husband always try his best to sell the different arts he creates where sometimes he can gain money where also sometimes there have no food to eat because he didn’t sell anything from his artwork until such time when he don’t know what to do, he painted her body with any colors and go to the city where everybody is looking at him and his family realized that they should work together in order for them to be a happy family and appreciated the talent that God give to each and every one of us. I also observed that they have a good angling with different sides which they uses the different background or the natural framing and it has a good look in settings
Pakaradyan
Another film from one my classmate who happened to be one of my close friends, the title of his film is “Pakaradyan” where they help each other to solve the shortage of chilli for the foreigner. In this film I’ve realized that if there are a problem there would always be a solution but it is up to you humans on how to look for the solutions of your problems. This film shows that being a Filipino is a fighter where they never surrender and always look on the positive side of life and we have this nature of camaraderie where we always help other people for the sake of happiness and contentment in life.

Sanswe
One of the films that I love to watch is the “Sanswe” it is a story of traditions and beliefs of b’laan people where they also have a good angling of the cameras and also the story itself where I could say that they have the best movie because in just a short minutes they tackle different issues of traditions of b’laan, the kaingin which make our mountains ugly and treeless which also an eye opener to all individuals to value our nature, the dream of a b’laan to succeed in life where they leave their home and follow her dreams and it has also a love story in the end where she marry the b’laan boy he met before in their barrio and this film satisfies me where I could say it is complete story where you could not say that this film is “bitin”. I think this film is good and it captures and satisfies me.

Sayang Disayang
Sayang disayang is the story of an old man who has a caretaker who love to sing while cooking who always get mad of his caretaker because she is too noisy but before he became a mad man, he is a happy person who have a very beautiful wife and a successful son who is an engineer who met his wife in Australia and start life also in Australia. Because of the father stubbornness as the son said they met an accident in the road and his wife die leaving him in a nice and beautiful house but alone and forgotten by his son who is already living in Australia. Until such time her wife showed up and help the caretaker to master the favourite food of her master until they develop and finally love each other but before that based on the story virgins should not sing while they are in kitchen because they will marry an old man. Until the prophecy already happened, I like this film because of its good sense of humor and the value and love of an old man to her lost wife who also help the caretaker to make her husband happy by loving another woman who can fill the emptiness of his heart. In this film I’ve realized that there should always hope, there should always rainbow after the rain and life must still go on and don’t let yourself stuck in an old house as you slowly deteriorate your body parts instead enjoy life and be optimistic and hopeful for there will always happiness after sadness.

Gift
It is a story of gifted child who is fond of drawing of fishes and her sister says that she should be a good citizen by doing good deeds that would help our nature recover from its lost because of people who is abusing the nature. This short film conveys a message that we should love our earth for we don’t have another planet to live in and being a gifted child doesn’t mean that they are useless and unproductive because of their disabilities but it is sad to know that even though they have disabilities and people believe that they would never have a happy life. In this film says that being a gifted child has a very good capability of appreciating life where most normal people fail to realized because of their greediness and selfishness where they want everything and posses everything in this earth sometimes I realized that normal people has an abnormal life and gifted people has a happy life. Maybe these people are having difficulty in understanding life but atleast these people know that they are love by God.

Ang Huling Lipad
This is a short film of a typical college student, who is studying far away from her family and mostly left in the boarding house because she can’t go home. A normal student who always bothering if her family is fine in their house where always texting her younger sister if they doing fine. In this film being a student is not easy especially if she is alone and no one would bother asking her if she is fine or not. Reaching dreams is not easy where you need and learn the word sacrifice and believe in yourself that you can do better today than yesterday.

Mareya
It is a comedy story of a gay college student where also want to be famous in their school and he will do anything in order for him to gain the popularity that he needed and wanted where mostly he cheated anybody in their school, where even his professors are also one his victims. Until such time where most of the student and professors in their school doesn’t believe in him anymore where he will always called as “baga’g nawong” and he face the mirror and seeing his self make him realized that he’s nothing anymore and face the fact the he will not be and icon in their school because of his bad deeds and want to straighten the path he choose to take and decided to live as an ordinary student and to become a humble person as he starting his another journey of  being the renew Mareya.

Hapag
In this film, I’ve realized that even though you are an adapted by someone doesn’t mean this family doesn’t love you anymore because you are not with the same flesh and blood came from but being a mother who take care the babies with her own hands even though you are not came from her doesn’t mean or care to her as long as she cared for you and love you with all her heart she will find ways to bring you back again to her hands and give everything that you want because that’s how mothers love their kids and will never want you to be in danger or problems because they want you to be happy and will always want her family complete eating in the table with the happiness in their heart.

Unveiling
It is a film about winning the good side of the people and wanted to change the bad side of it, trying to clean again whatever mistakes she committed and finding the real happiness within her and wanted to go back to our God and believing in herself that she can do anything with the help of our God. Unveiling the bad side of a person and revealing the good side of it. Religion is just a guide of how to be good children of God and there is no other religions can save you or even traditions it is how you people believe and follow the word of God.

Heli ni Lorna
It is a short story about a mother who has a postpartum disease where she could see that her baby will be doomed in her own hands and afraid if she cannot control herself her baby will be dead. As Prof. Regalado said that most mother have already encounter this problem and afraid of this kind of disease and if their relatives observed that they have these symptoms it is better to bring to the right person and never ever disregard this problem because this is big problem to be solve and understand these mothers who have this disease that they are abnormal or immoral, this is a disease to be treated not to be discriminated.
Ika – 3 Putahi
In this film the lesson that the director want to share in his film is that don’t let the small hole turn into big that can make you fall and break you into pieces. Don’t let the other people patience overflow by your greediness for you don’t know how good people turn into beast if they are angry with you. Be contented of what you have and don’t let the crab mentality ruin your life. Never betray other people’s trust and fool anybody because you don’t know what will be the consequences of what you’ve done.

Jazz in Love

It is a documentary film of gay’s life and how they love other guy who is a foreigner where he went to Philippines to see Jazz and his family but in every relationship it has it flaws and imperfection and these problems make them realized that life is not perfect and like any other people you should earn money to earn a living and the foreigner guy leave the Philippines but Jazz still believe that someday this imperfection would someday be retrieved by love and hoping that someday the foreigner guy will still love him and make their promises.

Lesson 13: Teaching with Visual Symbols

Graphs
Graphs present quantitative data for easier analysis and interpretation. It shows comparative relationship of data involved in size, trends and growth. Graphs are best used in developing and in summarizing a unit.
Kinds of graphs
1. Line graph – is the most accurate of all graphs used in plotting trends of relationships between two series of data. It is used when there is a considerable number of data to be plotted and if these data are continuous
2. Bar graphs – simplest of all graphs to read. They are represented either by vertical or horizontal bars. The lengths of the bars represent an amount or percentage data. It is best when number of values to be compared is small.
3. Circle or pie graph – the sections of which are used to represent component parts of a whole. They always present total amounts, their parts or segments are calculated in percentage or fractional parts of a whole.
4. Pictorial Statistics or pictograph – it makes use of related pictures in showing quantitative data. Pictures give realism and interest so it is widely used specially in the elementary grades.
6. Graphic organizers (some of which are also called concept maps, entity relationship charts, and mind maps) are a pictorial way of constructing knowledge and organizing information. They help the student convert and compress a lot of seemingly disjointed information into a structured, simple-to-read, graphic display. The resulting visual display conveys complex information in a simple-to-understand manner.
 Maps
Maps are usually shown on flat surface and are used to represent the surface of the earth or some parts of it, showing the relative size and position according to scale or projection and position represented.

Maps according to content

a. Physical map – also called relief maps, they are the best because of their three dimensional representation; which includes geographical outline of land and water.

b. Commercial or economic maps- also known as product or industrial map since they show land area in relation to the economy.

c. Political map – shows national boundaries down to the smallest division.

Map language
·         Scale- shows how much the actual earth’s surface is represented by a given measurement on a map.
·         Symbols- usually a map has a legend that explains what each symbols example highways, railroads, mountains, lakes and plains.
·         Color- the different colors of the map are part of the map language.
·         Geographical grids- this is the entire system of the grid lines. These grid lines are called meridians and parallels. A meridian is a north to south pole line. Parallels are lines drawn around the globe with all points along each line with equal distance from the pole. Longitude is a distance in degrees of any place east or west of the prime meridian. Latitude is the distance in degrees of any place north and south of the equator.

Understanding Maps, Graps and Charts
What should you do to be successful in reading maps, charts and graphs? The following steps will be of help:
1.     Read the information shown along the side and the bottom of graphs and charts and tables, if any. This will help understand what quantities and qualities are being presented or what comparisons are being made. On maps, notice how the different parts of the map are related to each other.
2.     Determine your purpose for reading the map, chart, table or graph.

Angkop na angkop ito sa pananaw ni Umberto Eco sa kanyang sanaysay na “Language, Power, Force” binanggit niya, “We must not be amazed then to hear people say that the given language is power... because outside the given language there is nothing.”
