Goals of Mindanao State University
Vision
System-wide: “Mindanao
State University, a world-class university in Southern Philippines.”
MSU Gensan: “To be a
globally competitive university to the development and promotion of its special
areas of concern namely, Engineering, Fisheries, Agriculture, Education and
Science & Technology while maintaining its programs in Social Sciences and
Business Administration to improve the quality of life of the people in its
service area”.
Mission
“To provide trained and skilled human resources for
the development of SOCKSARGEN and Southern Mindanao and help improve the living
conditions of Muslims and other tribal communities.”
Goals and Objectives
Aligned with the
university’s vision and mission are specific goals for its Key Result Areas
(KRA) on Instruction; Research Development and Extension (RD & E ); Infrastructure/
Laboratory Facilities; and Student Services.
1. Strengthen and pursue vigorously the instruction and training for the
technical skills in the thrust area of agriculture, fisheries, engineering,
science & technology and allied fields consistent with Outcomes-Based Quality Assurance
paradigm;
2. Develop competent middle and high level of professionals to man and
manage the growing number of industries, governing agencies and private
enterprises;
3. Utilize research and extension community services in the development,
promotion and utilization of appropriate and useful technologies in
agriculture, fisheries and other allied fields/ sciences;
4. Provide demand driven and local needs centered extension community/
services for individual and collective economic capability building;
5. Provide and develop judicious utilization and protection of the
environment within the context of sustainable development;
6. Work for the upliftment of the educationally disadvantage cultural
communities and other marginal sectors of the society to hasten their holistic
development; and,
7. Promote peace and development.
Various Programs and Activities
Student Publication
The MSU Varsitarian is the official quarterly student
publication of the University. It denotes itself mainly to news, poems and
opinions, comments and critiques about the University student as well as other
sectors of the University. The Varsitarian has served as the voice of the
student as a training ground for students in objective journalism and
responsible leadership.
The editorial staff is carefully chosen on the basis of
an examination given during the early part of the first semester of each school
year.
Some colleges come up with their own newsletter which
serves as outlets for the literary talents of their students.
Students on all levels are enjoined to send their
literary outputs for publication in the Varsitarian or the newsletter.
Campus Student Organization
There are several campus student organization duly
registered and recognized through the Division of Students Affairs. Recognition
is renewable yearly upon compliance with certain DSA requirements.
Organizations are classified into academic,
semi-academic, intergroup, club, fraternities, sororities and dormitory
associations.
Pursuant to the University policy of integration,
organizations which are sectarian, provincial, sectoral and sectionalist in
name and in nature are not allowed in the University. Any organization, which
identifies itself with any cultural, religious or linguistic groups, which may
tend to promote division instead of unification of students, is not also
allowed. While students are encouraged to join organizations to enhance their
academic and social growth, they are nevertheless expected to maintain satisfactory
academic status.
